If you look closely at the collar of the County shirts tomorrow, you will see that each one carries a unique number to reflect County’s support for the Stockport County Appearance Number (SCAN) initiative. County have had more senior players than any other club, and SCAN was set up in 2010 to celebrate this fact.  SCAN is a supporter-led programme and was the first of its kind in the UK. It is administered by a small group of guardians, independent of the club, and funded by donations. Following many years of research by the club historians, it became clear that County had more senior players than any other English Premiership or Football League club (1431 and counting). George Haigh (29 June 1915 – 23rd April 2019) We are deeply saddened to report the death of our oldest surviving player George Haigh. For many years George has been a regular visitor to Edgeley Park and was our guest to unveil the World War One memorial plaque in November 2018. Born in Stockport, George played his first game at Edgeley Park in 1929, when he captained his school team (Parish Church School) in the schools’ final.  He represented Stockport and Cheshire Schools before signing as an amateur for Manchester City where he played in the A team with Frank Swift. On Saturday 16th October, the Stockport County Supporters’ Co-operative and Help the Hatters will be jointly holding a County Players Tribute Evening at Edgeley Park. Doors open straight after the final whistle verses Barnet, admission is FREE, and all supporters young and old are welcome. The bar will be open, including Fosters at £2 a pint and food will also be available to buy. Every fan attending the event could end up being one of fifty supporters to make a special award to one of fifty County stars. Presentations start at 6pm, with final presentations no later than 8pm. All supporters who get the honour of making a presentation will receive a unique memento signed by the player receiving the special award, together with a souvenir photograph marking the occasion.…
